Tackle Climate Change

Helping protect
water, wetlands
and forests

HSWO’s Climate Change & Livelihood Program focuses on enhancing the resilience of communities facing the impacts of climate change. By implementing strategies that promote sustainable practices in agriculture, fishing, and natural resource management, the program helps communities adapt to changing environmental conditions. Training sessions provide community members with the knowledge to adopt climate-smart practices, ensuring their livelihoods remain viable even in the face of unpredictable weather patterns and environmental challenges.

This project will involve eight countries: Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea-Conakry, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal. Young women from the media and communication sectors of the target countries will be involved, and particular attention will be paid to the production of editorial content on young migrant women, who are among the least represented groups of migrant populations.

Climate Change & Livelihood Program: Building Resilience

Climate Resilience Training for Healthcare Workers

To support communities effectively, HSWO also prioritizes climate resilience training for healthcare workers. This training equips healthcare professionals with the skills needed to address health challenges related to climate change, such as increased prevalence of vector-borne diseases and heat-related illnesses. By integrating climate awareness into healthcare practices, workers are better prepared to manage emerging health risks, improving community health outcomes while fostering a holistic understanding of the links between climate and health.

Empowering Communities for Sustainable Futures

Through these initiatives, HSWO aims to empower communities to build resilience against climate change while ensuring the sustainability of their livelihoods. By combining livelihood strategies with healthcare training, HSWO creates a comprehensive approach that addresses both economic and health-related challenges. This dual focus not only strengthens community resilience but also fosters a culture of proactive adaptation, enabling individuals and families to thrive despite the uncertainties posed by climate change.
