The Himalayan Social Welfare Organization (HSWO), a non-profit NGO focused on HIV/AIDS and STI awareness and prevention, conducted an assessment study funded by FHI/Nepal. The study targeted high-risk groups, including drivers, conductors, mechanics, khalasis, and female sex workers (FSWs) in the Koteshwor parking area, covering a 14 km stretch along the ring road.

The objectives were to assess awareness levels, high-risk behaviors, and barriers to behavior change among target groups, and to provide recommendations for future interventions. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, the study involved direct observations, focus group discussions, and a survey of 40 participants. Data analysis revealed insights into risk behaviors and constraints faced by the groups. While limited by sample size, the findings offer valuable input for designing targeted, client-focused HIV/AIDS and STI programs.
